We have all heard the term “affordable housing”, and now the Victorian government has taken a step closer to make it a reality for more people by approving the Affordable Housing Amendment to the Housing Act. What does this mean for developers, builders and owners? We will have a briefing on the new Act by our secretary Howard Bartlett on 5 September at 6 PM at The Sustainable Activity Centre. The briefing is for members only so if you wish to attend please join SOAP House Design Inc before the meeting – your membership will serve as your ticket to the event (only $20 for 12 months of membership).
Following the briefing we will discuss the option to put an expression of interest for the latest tender by the Victorian government which seeks to sell the site of former South Wodonga Primary School on Jarrah St for new development comprising affordable social housing. This might be a great opportunity for us to show the design capabilities of our association and to promote smaller housing solutions (perhaps including Tiny Houses).
The Sustainable Activity Centre will also host a wider public forum on Affordable Housing later in September – please share this with others, this will be held on 27 September at 6 PM as a free event and we want as many participants to provide input into the discussion as possible. While it is a free event you still need to register for a ticket at Trybooking. We look forward to seeing you there!
